Spring Cleaning for Pet Parents: Pet Sitter Edition

Keeping your home clean and tidy when you have pets can sometimes feel like a full-time job. As experienced house sitters, we have a lot of really helpful advice on keeping your home clean when you have a messy little fur baby, and we can’t wait to share some tips with you:

Pet Bowls Are Dirty!

We’re constantly filling our pets' bowls, but how often are they thoroughly being cleaned? Pet bowls are actually said to be the fourth dirtiest item in the home in terms of germs, so it’s important to wash them as frequently as possible. If you can, stock up on a second lot of bowls so you can switch them out every few days to give them a thorough clean.

Pet Toys Need Love Too

Although it may not be feasible to remember to wash your pets toys on a regular basis, spring cleaning is the perfect time to throw your pets' favorite companions into the washing machine for a quick spin. As your dogs drool all over their toys, the damp atmosphere is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold. This is also a great time to take inventory of the toys you own and throw out any that are no longer appealing to, or used by your pets. Our pet services can even help you find some new replacements if you need.

Be Mindful of Your Very Hairy Friends

Pet hair can get absolutely everywhere, and we mean everywhere. From under your fridge to lampshades and picture frames, your pets' fur will be hiding in all of the nooks and crannies. When you’re spring cleaning your home, be mindful that you may need extra time to search for the high-volume hair areas and give them some extra love.

Pet Bedding Needs All The Care

When you’re spring cleaning your home, assess your pets' bedding. Is it cleanable? Is it too old? When was the last time it was washed? Pet bedding can sometimes be the hardest pet accessory to clean, so make sure you’re purchasing machine washable bedding and that you’re cleaning it at least every 3-4 months to prevent your pets from getting ill.

It’s important to keep in mind all of these tips when spring cleaning your home. Your pets not only need constant care, but their belongings need lots of love, too. Paws Up Pet Sitting would be happy to help with dog daycare, dog sitting, and other pet services when you’re too tired after a weekend of spring cleaning!
